BC Early Learning Framework

This Ministry of Education document is a guide for all educators working with children in the Early Years. It encourages us to be curious and reflective.

What’s Changed in the Revised Early Learning Framework?
Since 2008, there have been significant developments in the social, political, economic, and cultural context of B.C. that have created new realities for children, families, and communities. These new realities require consideration of concepts, language, and connections that revitalize the thinking about practice. This revised Early Learning Framework acknowledges these new realities and the changing perspectives and relations they bring.” (BC Early Learning Framework pg. 6).

The 2019 revisions include:

  • Expanded focus to children from infancy to eight years of age (previously five years of age)
  • Increased focus on reconciliation and Indigenous worldviews
  • Increased focus on inclusive practices
  • Connects with new K-12 curriculum, core competencies and primary program principles
  • Focus on integrating theory with practice
  • Updated inquiry questions address all early learners
