In Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools, we have moved from a model of reporting to parents to communicating student learning with parents on an ongoing basis. Ongoing Communications of Student Learning are timely and responsive throughout the year.
Ongoing communication of student learning can take many different forms. The basic requirements must be met:

Am I required to use Spaces?
Teachers can choose the format of their OCSLs. If a teacher chooses to use a digital platform, Spaces is the supported platform.
What happened to FreshGrade?
FreshGrade has discontinued their product as of June 2022.
Why Spaces?
Spaces is a platform that can digitize all four elements of an OCSL: reference to the BC standards and collects student work, student voice, as well as share teacher voice.
Spaces also aligns with BC’s FOIPPA regulations.
If I want to preview Spaces over the Summer, which email address should I use to create my account?
In mid-September, Spaces Pro will be ready with student rosters and single sign in (same PW as email). If you want to take a sneak peek, create a free account using your personal email address, until the school accounts are ready.
Will parent email addresses be auto-populated?
Spaces is working to make this possible, but at this point, parent email address will need to be added manually during the 2022-2023 school year. Instructions.

Spaces has been chosen by the Department of Learning Services in consulation with teachers and in partnership with IT, as well as the office of the Privacy Officer.
