The Early Number Sense Assessment was designed by NLPS K-3 teachers in 2018-2019.

The goal of the assessment tool is to be a vehicle to have collaborative conversations about students’ number sense and gather meaningful data to inform your planning / teaching.
Note: The ENSA is intended to be a toolbox of prompts to be used responsively based on the needs of your learners. Teachers are encouraged to:

The INA is designed around the curricular competencies and the content that students should achieve by the end of each grade. Example; 3+ is for the end of grade 3 or higher grades. Based on your students’ needs, you may choose to use a different assessment if the corresponding assessment to their current grade level is not providing adequate data to plan for instruction.
The INA is a flexible tool that could be used in entirety or just in parts depending on your students needs. Here are examples of how the INA can be used.

The following tools have been developed by a group of Grade 7 and 8 teachers in the Spring 2022 to assess learners’ understanding of critical Grade 7 content and competencies. The tools are to be used as a formative assessment to inform instruction at the beginning of each new area of focus in Grade 8.
The collaborative activity is meant to be done for 15-20 minutes prior to the individual assessments to activate and consolidate prior learning.
