Numeracy

To represent values and patterns
To visualize and predict
To play with numbers
To explore and solve problems
To connect to the world around us

Understanding where our students are at is the foundation of 'Assessment for Learning'. Using a reliable tool is essential to generate data that can be used to plan for instruction, drive our PLC time and measure the growth of students. Below are resources for assessing our students and planning for instruction in response to the assessment.

Early Number Sense  Assessment

Purpose

This Early Number Sense Assessment was designed by and for K-3 teachers to use in their classrooms, either in small groups and/or one by one. Research into authentic assessment practice tells us that the more real and embedded our assessment of our students’ understandings the better and more reliable the results.

*This assessment in still in draft and was originally created for K-2, thank you to a group of NLPS teachers in 2018-2019.  We are so grateful that this year some grade 3 teachers in the NLPS K-3 Numeracy Network have taken on the task to create new questions to complete this assessment.  Any additional recommendations and/or suggestions are encouraged.  Click on the link below to provide feedback:
